Sylvan "Herky" Brown Jr.

Sylvan Levi Brown, Jr., 81, affectionately known as “Herky,” of Maple Shade, passed away peacefully at his home on February 14, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Herky devoted his life to a distinguished career in law enforcement. He proudly served the Maple Shade Police Department for 22 years before retiring in 1992 due to injuries sustained while on duty. Beyond his dedication to public service, he found great joy and relaxation on the water aboard his beloved boat, “CopOut.” He cherished sharing stories from his years as a police officer and was an enthusiastic supporter of the Philadelphia Phillies and the Philadelphia Eagles.

He was the beloved husband of 61 years to Doris (née Geserick); devoted father of Donna, Tracey (Joe), Sylvan III (Kim), and Kathleen; cherished grandfather of Ryan, Lauren, Alyssa, Michelle and Matison; and proud great-grandfather of Ryan, Ryder, Kaydia, Ana, Ryett, Kendyn, Ryan Levi, Wynter and Franklin.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate his 81 remarkable years on Sunday, March 1, 2026, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Mark Tilghman Funeral Home, 38 North Forklanding Road, Maple Shade, where a service will be held at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Samaritan Hospice would be greatly appreciated.
