Stephen Edward Campbell Jr. of Maple Shade, a devoted husband, stepfather, grandfather, brother, and lifelong craftsman of the auto body trade, has left this world leaving behind a love as steady as the hands that shaped metal and as warm as the treats he always kept ready for four-legged friends.

A member of the Class of 1979, Stephen found his calling early. From his teenage years onward he built a career as an auto body professional—patient, skilled, and proud of work done right. Away from the shop, he was happiest outdoors with a line in the water at Strawbridge Lake or along the Cooper River, or at home with the people and pets who made his days brighter.

Stephen and his wife, Donna Faul Campbell, shared a beautiful marriage. He was a devoted stepfather to Ryan Stranahan and was inseparable from his grandchildren, Ryan Jr.—who shared a birthday with Stephen—and Phenyx. With them he collected rocks, fished, and taught the careful art of the BB gun: small adventures that will live forever in family memory. He is also survived by his father, Stephen Campbell, and his brothers, Edward and Christopher. He was predeceased by his mother, Marie McKenna Campbell.

Around Watergate Condos, Stephen was affectionately known as the "Dog Whisperer," never without treats for the neighborhood pets. He loved the History Channel and the Discovery Channel, cheered for the Philadelphia Eagles, and spun 70s vinyl—especially Lynyrd Skynyrd. His favorite meal was a classic: steak with mashed potatoes and gravy.

Private services will be held at the family's convenience. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any animal welfare facility—a fitting tribute to a man who never met a dog he wouldn't befriend.
