Richard "Rick" M. Weldon, of Maple Shade, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 6, 2025, with his loving family by his side.
Born in Philadelphia on October 8, 1957, Rick was the son of the late Reginald and Theresa Weldon and a lifelong resident of Maple Shade. After high school, he began working at the Navy Yard as an insulator aboard ships. In 1988, Rick took a leap of faith and left that job to start his own business—Weldon’s Tree Service. That brave decision led to a successful 33-year career that combined hard work with the flexibility to be fully present for his family.
Despite the long hours of running a business, Rick never missed a school event or sports game. He loved sports and poured his energy and positivity into coaching his kids’ little league and softball teams. Once his beloved grandchildren came along, he was thrilled to be back on the sidelines, cheering them on.
Rick lived life to the fullest. He loved racing dirt bikes, riding his Harley with friends, fishing, taking adventures in his RV, meeting up for coffee at Dunkin’, visiting the Jersey Shore, and cheering on all the Philly sports teams.
He was endlessly generous, always full of surprises, and known for his spontaneous acts of kindness. But above all, Rick was a devoted, selfless family man who could always make you laugh—and made everyone feel like family.
Rick is the beloved husband of 47 years to his devoted wife, Christine Weldon (nee Groth); loving and caring father of Jennifer (John) Lyons, Jeffrey Weldon, and the late Ricky Weldon; and cherished grandfather of Johnny, Arabella, Jemma, and Grace. He is the dear brother of Frank (Ruth) Weldon, brother-in-law of Linda (Joe) Senatore and Steven Groth, and will be deeply missed by many nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing and visitation on Monday, October 13th, from 6:00 to 9:00 PM and Tuesday, October 14th, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the MARK C.TILGHMAN FUNERAL HOME, 38 N. Forklanding Road, Maple Shade. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM with interment at Lakeview Memorial Park, Cinnaminson, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Rick’s name to the Center for Pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia:https://give2.chop.edu/give/243757/#!/donation/checkout/
