Ovid Arthur Holder

Ovid Arthur Holder passed away peacefully on May 12, 2025 with his dear wife Selina and son Roger by his side. He was born on May 17, 1935 to the late Edward and Ursula Holder in Georgetown, Guyana. After graduating high school he moved to London, England where he spent 17 years working for Firestone. 

In 1971, Ovid returned to Guyana where he eventually established one of the country’s most prominent bookstores. Aside from being a successful entrepreneur, he was passionate about cricket, football, boxing, tennis, and politics.

After three decades, Ovid left the shores of Guyana and emigrated with his wife to America. There he spent his remaining years enjoying life and the company of his family.

Ovid is predeceased by siblings Dunsford, Frank, Eric, Enid, Sinclair, Eustace, Cecil, and Alphonso.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years Selina; children Simeon (Sarah), Zoisa (Jeremy), Christopher (Lashae), and Roger (Gloria); grandchildren Jaden, Adrian, Freya-Mae, Brixton, Icon, and Ocean; and siblings Herschell, Desiree, Norma, and Edorl.

Ovid will also be greatly missed by the entire Holder and Tata generations as well as many devoted friends.

A celebration of Ovid’s life will take place on Saturday, May 17, 2025 at the MARK C. TILGHMAN FUNERAL HOME, 38 N. Forklanding Road, Maple Shade. The family will receive relatives and friends from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. for viewing and visitation. Funeral proceedings will follow from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
