Michael Schuld

Francis Michael Schuld of Maple Shade, New Jersey, passed away suddenly on December 30, 2025.

Mike was the husband of Mary Miller; stepfather to Debbie and Stephanie; and grandfather to Morgan, Camryn, and Joey. He was brother to Mary Ann Hall and the late David Schuld, and uncle to Molly, Trevor, Sally and Samantha.

Mike devoted his life to his family, his students, and his athletes. A longtime teacher of History and Social Studies at both Maple Shade High School and Monsignor Donovan High School, he was known for always keeping his classroom door open to his students. With his booming voice and commanding presence, he naturally earned respect, but those who truly knew him understood that beneath that stature was a gentle giant with a generous heart.

A towering figure in the South Jersey wrestling community, Mike was inducted into the South Jersey Wrestling Hall of Fame and, in 2020, was named one of the Top New Jersey Wrestling Coaches of All Time. Even after his retirement, he continued to give back by volunteering his time with wrestling teams. Outside of his professional life, Mike enjoyed traveling, especially trips to Hawaii and Walt Disney World. He deeply valued opportunities to reconnect with former students, continuing to leave a lasting impression on everyone he met.

A Celebration of Mike’s Life will be held at the Mark Tilghman Funeral Home, 38 North Forklanding Road, Maple Shade, on Sunday, January 11. Visitation with the family will take place from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., followed by a Storytime Service at 7:00 p.m., during which all are invited to share their favorite “Schuld” story.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 12, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 236 East Main Street, Maple Shade. A brief visitation will be held at the church beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, to ensure his passion for youth athletics and character development continues, donations can be made toward a scholarship fund in Coach Schuld’s name.

This scholarship will be awarded to a student-athlete who embodies Coach Schuld’s spirit of perseverance, teamwork, and leadership. Our goal is to support the next generation of leaders as they pursue their educational and athletic dreams.
