Mary Jane Eckel

Mary Jane loved her grandchildren, a day of shopping and a turn at the slot machines. A good cook, she made Pennsylvania Dutch meals and treasured family vacations to Disney, Cape May and the Poconos.

Born in Lancaster to Amos Yake and Evelyn Butler, Mary Jane met William while he was tending bar at the One Step In in Cramer Hill. Their first breakfast date had to wait, but they went on to share 53 years together, 46 of them married.

She is survived by her husband, William; her grandchildren, Elizabeth, Matthew and Mike; her daughter-in-law, Tammy; and her brother, Amos. She was predeceased by her children, Lisa and George Ellick, and her grandson, George.

Come celebrate 85 great years Wednesday, November 11, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Mark C. Tilghman Funeral Home, Maple Shade, where there will be an 8 p.m. service.
