Lydia A. Alicea

Listen to Obituary

Her earlier years found her working as an executive housekeeper at many area hotels, but Lydia found her real calling late in life: she was meant to be a grandmother. With the grands, she was doting and generous to a fault. She was a strict mom, tough when she had to be, but you always knew she had your back. If her TV was on, she’d be watching old programs, Survivor, or any of the cooking shows. She was raised in Cherry Hill (Delaware Township) and lived in Oaklyn, and later settled in Maple Shade.

Her job in housekeeping earned her more than just a paycheck: at the Howard Johnsons, she’d meet a handsome cook, the late Santos. The two would share a 55-year marriage blessed by 3 children, Santos Jr (Amy), Miguel (Yvette), and Maria (David) Howe; and 8 grandchildren. Lydia was the sister of Blanche (George) Burnham, and her beloved dog Bubbles.
