Listen to Obituary

Louise W. Leahy, wife of the late James J. Leahy, passed peacefully on April 26th, 2026.

She was raised in North Philadelphia, a member of Our Lady of Mercy Parish and attended John Hallahan Catholic High School for Girls where she made many life-long friends. After high school, she met her future husband Jim. He had just returned home from WWII (Navy) and was attending daily mass at her church. Together they shared a 58-year marriage and had 5 children. They raised their family in a 2-bedroom home in Juniata Park. Despite it being tight for the family of 7, they had an open-door policy and the Leahys always made a spot for their children's friends in need.

She made time for her children making each one feel special, such as making their birthday meal and cake of choice into their adulthood. She instilled a love of reading to her children with frequent trips to the library.

She was devoted to her family, including caring for her parents who lived to be 96 and 100, for which she was admired by many who knew her.

After her children were grown, she worked at Sears. Once retired, Louise started to travel and she loved it - enjoying one or two trips a year. She once flew in a helicopter over the Grand Canyon.

Louise had a strong faith and was a devout parishioner. She started each day by reading The Passion of the Christ. She also read a Bible verse to reflect on throughout the day. She enjoyed baking cakes and cookies from scratch, reading, and watching T.V. shows (especially Gunsmoke in her later years). She was an avid gardener and had a beautiful yard, especially her rose bushes.

She enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, wanting to hear all of the updates on their daily lives, school activities, and sports.

Louise is survived by her children: Irene Mishinkash, Debbie (Neil) Gallagher, Jenny Noll, Jimmy (Sandy) and John; grandchildren: Jimmy, Tina, Michelle, Tommy, Neil, Brittany and Matthew; and great-grandchildren: Hannah, Molly, Ellie, Charlotte, Anna, Jeffrey, Shane and Lilly. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Thomas Leahy, and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Monday, May 4th, 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 103 4th Street, Riverton where Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery in Bensalem, PA. In lieu of flowers, donations to Sacred Heart Church at the above address will be appreciated
