Louis "Lou" Basciani Sr., a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2024, in Cape May, at the age of 76. Born in Philadelphia, and spent many years in Maple Shade, Lou was a longtime Pennsauken resident before retiring to Cape May in 2017.
Lou is survived by his devoted wife of over 26 years, Karen Basciani (nee Watson); he was a proud father to the late Louis Basciani Jr. and a caring father-in-law to Jenny Basciani. He is survived by his loving children, James Basciani and Michael McKinsey (Shannon), and his adored grandchildren, Louis III, Nicholas, James Jr., Tyler, and Anthony. His legacy continues through his siblings, Joseph Basciani (Christine) and Mary Basciani, as well as his aunt, Rita Castor, and many nieces, nephews and cousins who will fondly remember Lou.
After a fulfilling career as an engineer with Consarc in Rancocas, NJ, Lou retired, allowing him more time to pursue his passions and be with his family. He was a man who relished the outdoors, whether he was hunting, fishing, or simply taking in the beauty of nature. Lou's love for dancing was infectious, and he could often be found leading a dance floor with the same precision and enthusiasm he applied to his engineering projects.
Hunting trips were another of Lou's great joys, and he explored North America extensively, including Canada and Mexico, always with a sense of wonder and a readiness for the next adventure. His stories of the places he visited and the people he met along the way will be retold and cherished by his family and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing Friday, March 1st from 1 to 3 pm at the Mark C. Tilghman Funeral Home, 38 North Forklanding Road, Maple Shade. Funeral service will follow at 3 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Polio Network (polionetwork.org), Jared Burke Foundation (jaredburkefoundation.com) and/or Southern Outdoor Dreams (southernoutdoordreams.org)
