Joseph Daniel Hasson Jr.

Listen to Obituary

Joe / Dan was that police officer who was loved by everyone: fellow cops, citizens and even those he arrested. He loved them just as much; the consummate policeman, law enforcement was his calling. He started on the force in 1977 and retired after 25 years. Even in retirement he remained active in The Emerald Society and regaled everyone with stories of being on the job. Of course, his family was even more important to him, raising three boys and eventually becoming the devoted caregiver of his wife. He’d never met a person he didn’t like and maintained friendships for a lifetime. For fun he played a little golf and loved his boat, fishing and crabbing and hanging out on the sand bars. He played the guitar, was in a band called The Standards in his youth and loved Willie Nelson and Patsy Cline. He was raised in Moorestown, lived for many years in Maple Shade and retired to Cape May Courthouse and later The Villages in Florida.

He’d meet a pretty girl when he was in his teens. Joe and the late Helen shared a 51-year marriage blessed and survived by three sons: Dan (Jennifer), Sean (Tricia) and Colin (Rebecca); and later by grandchildren: Melanie, Claire and Sean. He is also survived by his siblings: Marjorie Richards, Susan Roberts and Mary Lou (Kenneth) Boyell.
