Joseph A. Card, a vibrant soul who called Mt. Laurel home and previously resided in Maple Shade for 65 years, passed away on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at the age of 97. Born on January 22, 1926, in the picturesque town of Millbrook, New York, Joe's life journey was adorned with remarkable experiences.
Enlisting in the US Navy at the age of 17 during World War II, Joe proudly served his country. Following his military service, he attended LaSalle University and graduated with a degree in French Literature. He worked for US Lines, then as the Manager of Computer Operations at Philadelphia United Life Insurance Company. Joe's heart overflowed with spirituality, kindness, and love, which he generously shared with others. From his early days as an altar boy in Millbrook, he ascended to the esteemed role of Deacon at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, where he faithfully served for twenty-five years. Deacon Joe was also a member of the Knights of Columbus-OLPH Council #5714. Beyond his spiritual endeavors, Deacon Joe embraced a plethora of hobbies. An insatiable reader, he immersed himself in literature and spirituality. He had a passion for languages, his voice graced the operatic stage in college, and in later years taught himself the cello. He was a golfer, and an ardent baseball fan. He had an adventurous spirit which often led him to Ocean City, a cherished destination that held a special place in his heart. Deacon Joe leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and boundless curiosity—a testament to a life lived fully and with dedication to faith. In our hearts, his memory will forever thrive.
