John "Jack" W Tilghman

Jack was a hardworking man who took great pride in providing for his family. He spent more than 40 years working in the construction industry as an asphalt paver and truck driver. A proud member of Laborers’ Local 172, Jack worked for several companies throughout his career, including Statewide, Pierson, H. Liedtka, and National Paving, Mount Construction, before retiring in 2009.

Even after retirement, Jack was never one to sit still for long. For many years, he became known as the “firewood guy,” splitting, selling, and delivering firewood to people throughout the area. When he eventually stepped away from the firewood business, Jack found a new hobby and became the “fishing pole guy.” He loved finding fishing poles and reels at flea markets and garage sales, bringing them home to refurbish and giving them a second life. On weekends, you could often find Jack sitting in the garage of his home in Mt. Laurel, where he resided for 42 years, proudly selling his goods.

Jack enjoyed the simple routines and familiar faces that made up his days. He looked forward to his early morning trips to Wawa for coffee, where he could sit around, catch up with people, and “shoot the shit.” He enjoyed gardening, breeding beagles, fishing, hunting, yard sales, flea markets, and riding around on his John Deere tractor. One of his favorite places to visit was Harkers Auction in Tabernacle.

Jack shared 41 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved late wife, Bonnie. Together, they enjoyed their trailer at Oceanview Resort Campground, where they made many memories crabbing, fishing, and simply enjoying their time together especially when they found a bargain at a yard sale or flea market. Of all the things Jack enjoyed, spending time with his family was among the most important. He especially cherished time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Jack is predeceased by his wife Bonnie Goldstein. He is survived by his daughter Donna (Bob) Goldstein, his step children Kellie (Allen) Stevenson, Amy Thalman, and Robert Thalman, his grandchildren Michael, Bradley, Ryan, Alexis, Madeline, Kenny, Carlee, Rylee, Avaree, and his great grandchildren Grabriella, Savannah, and William. Along with many extended relatives and friends.

Come celebrate 84 great years on Saturday, September 26th, at Lakeview Memorial Park, in the Mausoleum of the Saints, where there will be an 11am graveside service.
