Ethel H. Alday, age 94, of Pennsauken, NJ, passed peacefully on September 23, 2024.
Ethel was born to the late Lizzie C. (nee Eagan) and John M. O’Connor and grew up in Maple Shade, NJ. She had been a resident of Pennsauken since 1959.
Since her childhood, Ethel was a very active member of the United Church of Christ/Congregational Church in Maple Shade, where she served in many ways over the years including as a Deacon, Sunday school teacher, member of the visiting prayer group, and member of the church choir. She was a talented singer and performed for many weddings at the church.
Ethel was a retired Classroom Teacher Assistant for the Pennsauken Township Schools and also served the schools through her involvement with the PTA, as a library assistant and band booster parent for Pennsauken High School.
She was very family oriented and driven to care for her family. Together with her late husband, Paul S. Alday, Jr., they would take their family to spend their summers at their cabin on the Tohickon Creek in Quakertown, PA. Ethel also enjoyed sewing and crafting, but spending time with her family was most important to her.
Predeceased by her beloved husband Paul S. Alday, Jr., their son Paul S. Alday, III, and her sisters Peggy Smith and Jane Feist, Ethel is survived by her loving children, Amy Jane (Thomas) Murray, Sarah Jean (John) Salerno, dear daughter-in-law Carolyn Alday, and her beloved grandchildren, Daniel (Jennifer) Alday, Matthew (Kirsten) Alday, Catlin Salerno, Cara Salerno and Michael Murray. Also surviving are her cherished great-grandchildren, Adaline, Vivienne, Juliet and Bradley Alday, as well her nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing on Friday, September 27, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM, followed by her Funeral Service at 12:30 PM, all at the Mark C. Tilghman Funeral Home, 38 N. Forklanding Rd., Maple Shade, NJ 08052. Interment will be in Locustwood Memorial Park, Cherry Hill, NJ.
