Betty Ann passed away on Friday, May 1st, at St. Mary’s Home in Cherry Hill.
Betty Ann was a lifetime resident of Maple Shade and active member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish. She was a graduate of Holy Cross High School. She earned a BA in Elementary Education from Gwynedd Mercy College and Ed.M. from Rutgers University. She was a lifelong learner and received post graduate credits though Learning Institute at Villanova and St. Joseph’s University.
Betty Ann spent 36 years teaching in Maple Shade Public Schools. She taught both 2nd and 3rd grade. Her longest tenure was at Maude Wilkins Elementary School. Students and parents loved her. She was committed to her beloved town and its people. She enjoyed reading, traveling, and the casinos in Atlantic City.
Betty Ann was a member of the Retired Camden County Teachers Association, New Jersey Historical Society, Maple Shade Historical Society (Past President), Maple Shade Women’s Club (Past President), Maple Shade Little Red School House (Director/Historian), Maple Shade Lions Club, Maple Shade Rotary, and National Society of Colonial Dames of New Jersey. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International/NJ Chapter/Sigma Chapter.
Betty Ann is survived by her sisters, Margaret (Martin) Beck and Barbara (Albert) Hand; nieces and nephews, Martin (Kathleen) Beck, Susan Beck, Thomas Hand, Jonathan Hand, Anthony Procopio, and Donna (Manny) Lopez; and many great nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to visitation on Tuesday, May 5th, from 10:00 – 10:45 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church 236 East Main Street, Maple Shade, 08052. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Moorestown. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Betty’s name to Alzheimer’s Association. https://donorservices.alz.org
