Albert Handy, Sr.

Albert Handy of Maple Shade passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Thursday July 20th, 2023. He was 81 years old. Born in Camden, he was a longtime resident of Maple Shade where he volunteered many years coaching baseball and softball. Al served his country in the US Army Reserves and retired from the City of Camden after 28 years as Captain of the Police Department. He was a devoted parishioner of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. Among Al's many hobbies he enjoyed playing cards, watching the Phillies and western movies. He also loved to travel and spend time with his family.
 
Beloved husband of 58 years to Patricia Handy (nee McGonigle), loving father of Jeannine (Sylvio) Esposito, Michelle (Mike) Downes, Patty (Michael) Farr, Albert, Jr.(Terry) Handy, Lisa (Dan) Vallen, Ann (Joe) Dougherty, dear brother of Michael (Barbara) Handy, cherished grandfather of Erika, Jerry, Hunter, Morgan, Karl, Kaitlyn, Jackie, Mikey, Abby, Jake, Danny, Madison, Patrick, Sean, Brett and McKenzie, proud great grandfather of Giovanni, Vienna, Ryker, Genaro, and Saverio. Al will also be greatly missed by many nieces, nephews and good friends. He was the son of the late Walter and Florence Handy, brother of the late Walt, Chuck, Henry, Joe, Bill, John, Jim, Howard, Martha Handy, Ruth Coleman and Patty Ferguson.
 
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing and visitation with his family on Tuesday evening July 25th, 6-9 pm at the MARK C. TILGHMAN FUNERAL HOME, 38 N. Forklanding Road, Maple Shade. His mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday July 26th 11 am at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 236 E. Main Street, Maple Shade. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
